Kohjinsha Dual-Screen DX Netbook Now on Sale

"At the end of October we mentioned the Kohjunsha Dual-Screen netbook that was captured on video. We now hear that the dual-screen device is actually on sale.

The netbook is unique in that it has two screens rather than just the one found on netbooks. Each screen measures 10.1 inches and to keep things compact, one slides behind the other when not in use. Each screen is a TFT display capable of showing 1,024 by 600 pixels.

The netbook measures 1.02 x 8.26 x 0.74 – 1.65 inches and weighs just 4.09 pounds. The dual-screen netbook is on sale for the equivalent of $1,110 and runs the Linux OS. If you pay a little more ($58) then you can choose Windows Home Premium for the device.

Power wise it runs an AMD Athlon Neo processor running at 1.6GHz and has an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card. Memory wise it comes with just 1GB although that is expandable to 4GB. For storage it has a 160GB HDD. Battery life keeps the dual-screen netbook running for 4.5 hours max."

~*Software: Fences - By Stardock

Overview from website:
" Fences is a one-of-a-kind program, allowing you to draw labeled shaded areas on your desktop, which become movable & resizable containers for your desktop icons. These groups can help bring organization and consistency to your computer's desktop, solving the "constant mess" problem that has plagued the desktop since its inception.

Fences also helps you finally appreciate the wallpaper you have hiding behind all that clutter.
In addition to its organizing features, Fences offers a patent-pending quick-hide feature. Double click your desktop, and all your icons will fade out. Double click again, and they'll return."

ProFORMA 3D Scanner builds 3D Textured Models

ProFORMA is a 3D scanning system that uses a regular webcam to capture an object and automatically build a 3D textured model from the real object. All the user needs to do is hold an object in front of the camera and rotate it around while the computer calculates all the information needed to represent it in 3D. ProFORMA, meaning “Probabilistic Feature-based On-line Rapid Model Acquisition” was designed by Qi Pan at the Cambridge University and both Linux and Windows versions of the test software are being made available soon.

The system appears to work well from what I can see in the video. Although they are not high resolution meshes showing all the fine details, they still capture enough information to represent a 3D model that looks good. Check out more images and a video below showing the system in action. The video also shows an augmented image where the user can rotate the physical model and the 3D model be rendered in real time.
